Fence Lizards, Ticks, and Lyme Disease Don’t Mix

Fence lizard blood is fatal to Lyme Disease bacterium in ticks:  UCBerkeley scientists have discovered that fence lizard blood contains a substance that destroys the bacterium not only in adult ticks but in their nymphets.  So, while ticks might be found on fence lizards,  the Lyme Disease danger from them    Is slight.  A useful summary of research on this subject is at http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/sceloporus.html
