PVP is a 900+ acreage along both sides of the Kern River below the Panorama Bluffs and city-owned Panorama Park in Bakersfield, CA. PVP is not part of the park but is privately owned by the Kern River Corridor Endowment and Holding Company. Although it is private, it is open to the public for non-motorized use. Walkers, runners, bird watchers, and equestrians use it regularly but motorcycles, quads, scooters, etc. are prohibited. The Endowment’s mission is to restore the habitat that once existed along the river and it has, so far, revegetated approximately 200 acres with native trees and shrubs, all drawn from genetic material native to the preserve. New plantings need some irrigation in the beginning but they are naturally drought resistant and will be weaned from irrigation a few years after planting. PVP came into existence in 1997, hence the name of this blog. Enjoy!
